The Sales Buzz Issue 317 - Viral Marketing Stunt-Could You Adapt and Use This
May 19, 2016
Hi,

Viral Marketing Stunt-Could You Adapt and Use This

A viral marketing stunt took social and business media by storm and when someone has success like this I like to share it and see if it can be adapted to help others.

A car customising company called Revere wanted to show off its new body kit for the Range Rover Vogue, well they certainly got people's attention. It was all over Facebook and other media.

They sprayed the car with, 'Cheater,' and, 'Hope she was worth it,' in bright red paint.

Anyone seeing the video obviously though this top end car had been vandalised by an irate girlfriend who had caught her man cheating.

Good Marketing Hits the Emotions

Stories like that catch people's emotions.

They either side with the poor girl, or feel for the guy whoes car was damaged, and some are shocked an expensive motor being damaged, especially inbraod daylight on a busy road.

Of course the damage wasn't done there, but with the best viral marketing stunts people make up their owm stories.

They'll make up the story behind the action, who was cheated on, why it happened, and take sides with people they don't even know. It's like a soap opera in their own head based on one thing they have seen.

Watch the video, it only takes a few seconds...

Could You Do a Similar
Viral Marketing Stunt?

I don't expect there are many companies or sales individuals that could use the exact same viral marketing stunt.

If you sell recycling bins, or industrial machinery, spraying cheater on them just won't have the same shock appeal.

But take this up a level and there are 2 techniques at work here that maybe you could use, but in your own way.

Marketing Technique 1

A short video creates emotion and people make up stories that support what the feel.

Is there something that you could video relating to you, your products, or your business, that, without explanation, would get people making up a completely wrong story.

These are the videos that go viral and get you free marketing on business and social media.

Marketing technique 2

Is there something that you, or someone in your business, does that isn't closely related to what you supply or sell that will stir people's emotions and get them to feel a certain way about your company.

Start Thinking of Ideas

Maybe you do charity work, help people in the community, or some other activity from which you don't benefit financially.

Could you take a simple video as a viral marketing stunt, that hides the real action you're taking until it's revealed at the end?

Branding is no longer just about companies or organisations getting their name known.

I predict that the future of sales will be sales people having their own brand, being known within their industry, and it will play a much bigger part than it does it now in sales success.

Have a think about what the publicity and recognition of a viral video could do for you or your business, and then put some ideas together.

It could be a very cost effective way of getting you or your products seen by a whole new audience.
