Start a small business using
your sales skills

Starting a small business is something most sales people think about at some time.

You might have pictured the additional pleasures a second income can give you. Or talked about a secure financial future and paying off debts. Perhaps you have looked deeper into the future and what you will want to be doing with your life.

Have you ever thought you could run your employer’s business better than they do?

And haven’t we all at some time thought there must be more than this?

The reason sales people often think about starting a small business is because they have all the right skills and experience.

Think about your skills what you can do, and don’t take it for granted.

If you’re in a sales role you have:

  • Great communication skills that you can put to good use for yourself.
  • An understanding of selling, and making a profit
  • You understand people and what they want


There are probably many more skills and attributes that you have and use every day in your sales role without thinking. When it comes to starting a small business sales people have a head start on others.



I’m not risking my money on huge start up costs

This is one of the things that put me off starting a part time business for years.

Then along came the Internet and all that changed. Starting a small business online involves very low start up cost. A lot less than we spend on night’s out or our hobbies and pastimes in a month. This was the answer to my hunger to start something, and prove what I could do for myself without risking money I didn’t have available.

The next negative thought that put me off was, I don’t have any computer skills or web building experience.
